Assembly and Pre-Order ETAs

Here you'll find information on the status of pre-orders and assembly services. Please note that I currently run this store by myself and this is not my full-time job. I also personally pack and ship all orders, and when you select a pre-assembly option I am the one that assembles it. Currently, only the RetroSix GG Slot header on the GG adapter is machine-assembled, everything else is hand-assembled by me after being ordered. As this is currently just a hobby and this store mostly just exists to support that hobby it can take time to get to assembling/preparing your order. Purchases here go towards supporting my continued work on the projects I'm involved with. Please know I absolutely value your support and am trying to the best of my ability to fulfill orders as quickly as possible.

General (All) Order Status & Assembly Status
For all orders requiring assembly, the parts for the OSCR and GG kits arrived at the same time even though they were ordered by me at different times. Effectively, this made it as if all of those orders were placed at once. The orders are being assembled in the order in which they were received. See below for their individual statuses.

Also, do note that you always get the latest available revision on hand at the time of shipping. For instance, if you placed an order for the OSCR when the main PCB was at Rev. 3 or 4, you will, in fact, receive a revision 5 PCB. The exception is, of course, if you specifically ordered a past revision or requested in the order's notes to not do that. But, generally speaking, all orders ship with the latest revision listed on the site at the time the order is shipped.

The only orders that move to the front of the queue are those that do not include anything that needs assembly. An order that doesn't require assembly will usually go out alongside the next order to ship that does require assembly.

Quick Overview of ETAs ("TLDR")
This is a quick listing of the ETAs for all orders. If your order contained multiple things, the item with the furthest out ETA applies.

  • OSCR Kits & Pre-assembled Units
    • Current ETA: 2-6 days (Parts in stock; waiting on 3D printer to print the frames.)
    • Current ETA (opt-out of frame): 0-3 days from the date of request, depending on the order number.
  • GG Adapter
    • Now shipping normally.
  • Custom-Modded Consoles
    • Current ETA: After all other in-stock orders are processed. (See below)
  • New Orders (not containing an OSCR or modded console)
    • ...requiring assembly
      • Current ETA: 5-12 days from order.
    • ...not requiring assembly
      • Current ETA: 0-3 days from order. (Normal)

For more details on delays, see below.

OSCR Kits & Pre-assembled Units
Orders of the OSCR (kit or assembled) have been delayed. Originally, the plan was to 3D print frames for the OSCR using an SLA printer (resin), however, this required a redesign of the frame as resin does not melt. This was more difficult than anticipated, primarily due to how the LCD mounts to the frame and my lack of experience in 3D design. I've given up on trying to get resin to work for now and have ordered a new FDM printer from Anycubic. As of the date of this notice (2023-10-07), it has arrived and is being set up. This is supposed to be a pretty fast 3D printer so most orders should be going out on Tuesday (2023-10-10). (Originally this said Monday, but I didn't realize Monday is a holiday.)

Refunds
Refunds are not being offered at this time, mostly because the kits were already priced with the slimmest margin possible to try to get the OSCR in the hands of as many people as possible and PayPal no longer refunds the seller any of the fees associated with a payment when you refund it. They used to only keep the 29-cent per transaction fee and would give back the percentage-based fee, but now they keep both. With that said, in the unlikely event that shipping gets delayed into mid to late October then a refund option will be offered.

OSCR Kits: Opt-Out of a Frame (Optional)
If you have already placed don't need a frame, either because you can print your own or because you had already planned to order a full enclosure somewhere else, you can send a message using the site to ask for the kit without the frame. Note that this does not change the price of the kit as the frame was a very small part of the overall cost ($1-2), you also will not receive a frame later (unless you want to pay for shipping -- $5).

This does not bump up your order in the queue. Your order will still be assembled based on when it was received. If a frame is ready for your order when it ships you will still receive a frame, the frame will only be omitted if it results in your order going out sooner even if you opt out of one. That means you don't need to worry about opting out and not receiving a frame despite your order not going out any sooner. Orders placed within the last week or two don't need to request to opt-out as it's unlikely your order will be assembled before a frame is available, though you still can if you want to just in case.

ETA for OSCR Kits & Pre-assembled OSCRs
All OSCR orders are being assembled while waiting for the 3D printer. So, most orders should ship as soon as they have a frame to ship with. That should mean that kits will start going out as soon as frames start coming off of the printer.

OSCR GG Adapter
Now shipping normally.

Custom-Modded Consoles
Orders for custom-modded consoles are all being pushed to the back of the assembly queue regardless of the order date. Once the assembly queue is cleared out, modded consoles will ship in the order they were received. I was not expecting so many orders of the smaller items and modded consoles take a lot of time to assemble, some take an entire day (8-12+ hours) of work or more, depending on the mods selected. The intent for these was always to work on them when no other orders were pending, I just didn't anticipate how popular some of the other items would be. These will probably start shipping in late October or maybe even into November, depending on your order number. The only exception is the base offering of the GC (as in, with only PicoBoot), those will still be processed normally in the queue as that's a pretty quick mod. As such, I've pulled most of the custom console offerings from the site, so if you are wondering where they went, that's where.
